Angie Parr dropped to her knees to stack the books into her arms. She felt so tired, and her back popped as she stood. She clutched the books as steadily as she could, teetering a bit, and walked the short distance from the front steps to her car, which was parked in an empty parking lot.

Yesterday had been nothing short of confusing. Today had been worse. While yesterday was full of questions from her little band of friends, today their questions had mutated into sarcastic, bitter pre-judgments against each other.

Elaine was puzzled and therefore indignant over Erik’s bizarre behavior. Nate was keeping Erik’s secret which was slowly unnerving him, for he was never one to keep secrets. Luke? Luke was uncertain of what to do or what Erik’s perception of him was.

Sometimes one must take a break from The Libertas League and explore other stories. That’s what I’m doing: writing a story about a Japanese boy, an American woman, a sunken kingdom, and a curse. The story is a work-in-progress, but is up to chapter 6, or around 44,000 words. This is a story for people who like romance, some fantasy, magic, mythical kingdoms and legends, and mermaids. So, my plot has about 13,000 words going. I tend to write the plots out in the sequence the book will be written. Then I take the lengthy, running chunk and divide it into chapters. Sometimes I need to chunk the chapters down by day and time as well, or I end up losing all track of when, what, how, where things happened. It’s so pathetic! But one must do what one must…

So, here’s a peak for some of the plot. Remember: I just write and write and write it and return and write more and don’t edit anything!

Erik at first says he cannot be a witness, for they are right. He’s not a reliable witness. He’s too close to the case. But when he steps down, he feels terrible and afraid. Keeping his dual identity a secret–is this really selfless or is it selfish? Who is he protecting? He has a responsibility as TLL leader to protect the members, but they also are to take care of themselves. He is incredibly conflicted and does not come out during the day to talk to anyone. He goes to class, goes to whatever else he must, but is silent and introverted. At night, he goes to Francois Manner. But he does not speak to Bar or Daisy or anyone else.

Bar and Daisy try to get him to come out but he doesn’t. It’s not until Andy picks his lock and boldly enters that Erik talks to anyone. His room is a wreck. It smells bad. It’s too warm. Erik’s shirtless, sitting on the floor against his bed. He glares at Andy, but Andy doesn’t speak. He sits down against Erik’s dresser, looking at him.

Since Andy came to ZD, he’s become far more relaxed than he was in Equinox. It’s not his first time there either. He was a transfer student just a mere few weeks ago, but for a very short amount of time. He says that when he was a transfer student, he was picked on a lot. That’s normal. But no one knew that he was hermaphrodite in ZD. They just saw he looked too feminine and they didn’t like it ,so they picked on him. But it was before the Christmas Ball that Elaine saw him about to get beat up and she intervened. He knew then that she was a powerful but true girl.

Erik looks away.

Andy goes on. He says he truly loves Stacie. Wherever she is, he will do what it takes to bring her back. He would die for her. He just wished he understood that about himself before she disappeared. That before he was too caught up in his own problems–which were pretty petty.

Erik looks at him like, okay, what’s the point of you saying all this?

To the look, Andy smirks and says that he doesn’t care about his own welfare or privacy anymore. He will fight as Onyx to do what he must. If he were to be found out, it wouldn’t stop him from continuing his fight. He is flexible now and will go where he must, do what he must, to be an agent for good. What is identity really? It is a name and a situation. It is not who he is in his soul.

If he had to give up his identity for Stacie, he would do it. But for now, he will keep himself safe so he can see her again in this life. Then he will do anything to keep her with him.

Erik looks at his hands. What Andy said about Elaine … is how he feels … he is torn and still angry at her and cannot bring himself to speak. But … what Andy said about his identity, and with such drive, makes him feel encouraged and small at the same time.

Andy gets up and says it would be nice if Erik came out a little bit. Bar’s been very worried. The last words he said were with hidden strain yet Erik caught it. Erik looks up suddenly and sees Andy has a forced smile but his eyes are cold and jealous. Then Andy walks out and closes Erik’s door.

Erik realizes there is a lot about Andy and Bar he does not know. But it definitely has to do with their relationship as brothers. Perhaps… Erik guess correctly, that Andy is jealous of his brotherly closeness to Bar. He swallows and feels very small, yet at the same time, determined now to be brave for everyone’s sake. Since he has been wronging people, he cannot be selfish.

He will reveal his dual identity so that his father absolutely WILL be put away in jail for the rest of his life! What is Erik’s selfish desire for privacy if keeping himself ‘safe’ means his father will be released and do more evil? What will that be for Luke’s death? His mother? Uncle? The others his father has no doubt killed that no one will ever know about? And for his sister’s safety? It must be this way.
